MLB All-Star Rosters Voting 2024: AL, NL Finalists Revealed; Judge, Harper Earn Nods (2024)

New York Yankees star Aaron Judge and Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper are the first two players who earned a spot on the 2024 MLB All-Star team.

MLB announced the finalists for this year's Midsummer Classic after phase one of voting closed on Thursday. Harper and Judge, by virtue of being the leading vote-getters in their respective leagues at the end of the first phase, are automatically on the team.

The top two finishers at each position—top six for outfielders—in the first phase of voting advanced to the next round. Since Judge, who is an outfielder, led the AL vote, there are only four outfield finalists from the Junior Circuit for the remaining two spots.

American League Finalists

Judge led all players during the first phase with more than 3.4 million votes cast for the Yankees slugger.

As part of phase two of the process, vote totals from the first round do not carry over. Everything will be reset with fans allowed to vote once per day.

In the most recent phase-one update released by MLB on Monday, there were four races within 100,000 votes of each other. The two closest battles were for the final outfield spot in both leagues.

Kyle Tucker of the Houston Astros led Steven Kwan of the Cleveland Guardians by 29,402 votes for the No. 3 outfielder in the AL. Judge and Juan Soto were, by far, the top two vote-getters in that category with more than 2 million votes each.

The No. 3 NL outfield spot was a battle between Teoscar Hernández of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Fernando Tatis Jr. of the San Diego Padres. Hernández was ahead by a margin of 23,140 votes (1,413,877 to 1,390,737).

If the trends from the first round of voting carry over two phase two, some of the notable AL starters would include Gunnar Henderson at shortstop; José Ramírez at third base; and Adley Rutschman at catcher.

NL starters would be Shohei Ohtani at designated hitter; Alec Bohm at third base; Mookie Betts at shortstop; and Jurickson Profar and Christian Yelich in the outfield.

Henderson and Judge have built a wide lead over the rest of MLB in terms of FanGraphs' wins above replacement. The Orioles shortstop leads all position players with 5.9 fWAR, followed closely by Judge at 5.7. No other player is above 4.8 (Soto).

Judge leads MLB in homers (30) and slugging percentage (.712). Henderson is second in homers (26) and third in slugging (.618).

Ohtani (4.5) and Harper (4.0) are the only NL players who have been worth at least four wins. The Dodgers DH leads the Senior Circuit with 26 homers and a .643 slugging percentage.

Perhaps not surprisingly since they own the best record in MLB, the Phillies have the most finalists of any team with seven if you include Harper as a starter. The Orioles lead the way in the AL with a total of six finalists.

The winners will be revealed on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. The pitching staff and reserves for both teams, which is voted on by MLB players, will be announced on July 7.

The 2024 MLB All-Star Game will be held at Globe Life Field, home of the reigning World Series champion Texas Rangers, on July 16.
