Tha Barmuda High The local weathermen pointed out that predictions for this section of the country are particularly difficult because of the mountains and the geographic location It seems as if the mountains often manufacture their own weather and the element forecaster at Washington is unaware of the conditions here until the man on duty at Tri-City files his hourly weather observation report on the teletype Another factor concefrns the moving air from the Bermuda Jligh which circulates over the Gulf Stream is warmed and then makes its wav up to this section ofttimes colliding with a cold front coming down from the north Now Jerry Johnson explained this in detail to the writer but the preceding ultra-simplified account is all the writer was able to grasp Working in direct cooperation with the Civil Aeronautics Authority the local weather staff makes and records the following observations: Ceiling sky condition (scattered clouds broken clouds or overcast) visibility tn miles temperature of the free air dew point surface wind (direction and velocity) barometric pressure and anv other pertinent details that would affect the safe operation of aircraft The ceiling Is measured at night by means of a light beam cast on the clouds and then computing the distance after determining the angle with a clinometer In the daytime when the clouds are low enough a helium-filled' balloon with an attached weight is released and its ascent is timed until it disappears in the clouds The computation ts then made after the length of time for the ascent Is observed Known Distances To determine visibility the distance irom the observation point to various objects such as houses and spots on the surrounding mountains are "known to the observer Other observations made hourly include air velocity wind velocity rain and snow gauge reading Records at the local office show that there were only nine days in II January that no rain fell and 8 38 inches of the wet stuff was recorded for the month which was 4 73 inches above normal for the first month of the year Rainfall has been recorded on 12 days this month with 4 23 Inches being measured Average rainfoll for February is 3 3 inches Weather forecasts for the public come from the various district weather bureaus throughout the nation The Washington office issues the prediction for Maryland Virginia West Virginia the northeastern tip of Tennessee which includes Tri-City Airport and North Carolina From the New York office comes the forecast for eastern part of Pennsylvania and all of the New England States The Atlantic district covers Georgia northern Alabama South Carolina and central Tennessee Therefore since there could be no difference In the quality of the appliance the only thing worthy of your consideration is the price terms and other features of the transaction SINCE is the prime factor why not drop around and check over the 1950 models I now have on display and compare these appliances from any standpoint you can think of and be governed accordingly YOU CAN So Light So Tender So Digestive ALWAYS GET A BETTER o) fg3 Compare that fresh delicate flavor just slip them in then whisk them to the table and listen to the the favorite of so many 1103 WmI Stat SL Phone 2483 Put a package of these famous Hecht's "Brown Rolls on your shopping list.
